About my journey as an artist

I began showing an interest and uncanny patience for art at a young age--and I am not a patient person. I have enjoyed creating stories and pictures all of my life. At this point, I believe my patience and learning how to "see" the subject I draw has brought me to where I am today. Where I once had preconceived notions of how things should look, I am now able to break down a subject into varying shades of dark and light, and shapes that fit together to form a whole. The interplay of those shapes help to capture the uniqueness of each person I draw.

About sending photos and preserving portraits

Please note: The quality of submitted photos is important. It is not recommended to send an extremely small photo you want enlarged to a great degree. Also, dark, fuzzy photos will make dark, fuzzy portraits. If you have a question regarding a photo and if it would make a good pencil portrait, send it and I will let you know.

I spray a fixative on both pencil and pastel portraits to keep them from smudging. This is especially helpful when sending them through the mail. It is recommended that pastel portraits be framed behind glass once received. At this time, I do not offer framing services.
